About Sports & Disciplines

The International Pacific Sports Federation (IPSF) aims to promote sporting participation, encourage athletic excellence and foster international cooperation through sports. Our Sports & Disciplines section provides a platform to explore sporting activities, understand competition standards and support the development of athletes, coaches, officials and sports organizations.

Through structured sporting disciplines, transparent rules and a commitment to fair play, IPSF seeks to encourage inclusive participation, respect, teamwork and excellence across the sporting community.

1. Recognized Sports

IPSF aims to support the development and promotion of sports through a structured recognition framework. Sports may be considered for recognition based on their sporting value, established rules, safety standards, organizational structure and opportunities for participation.

Our recognition framework may include:

  • Individual sports
  • Team sports
  • Indoor and outdoor sports
  • Athletic and physical performance sports
  • Recreational and community sports
  • Emerging and innovative sports
  • Youth and inclusive sports

Recognition Policy: A sport should be described as officially recognized by IPSF only after formal approval by the federation in accordance with its applicable policies.

2. Sporting Disciplines

Sporting disciplines define the different formats, categories and competitive activities within a sport. IPSF aims to encourage clearly defined disciplines that support fair competition and provide opportunities for athletes with different abilities and levels of experience.

Disciplines may include:

  • Individual and team competitions
  • Junior, senior and age-group categories
  • Amateur and professional divisions, where applicable
  • Men’s, women’s and mixed categories, where appropriate
  • Para-sport and inclusive competition formats
  • Recreational, development and elite-level participation

Each discipline may have its own eligibility requirements, technical standards, competition format and performance criteria.

3. Rules & Regulations

Clear rules and consistent regulations are essential for fair, safe and transparent sporting competitions. IPSF aims to establish or adopt appropriate rules for its authorized events and recognized disciplines.

Key regulatory areas may include:

  • Athlete eligibility and registration
  • Competition formats and scoring systems
  • Technical specifications and equipment standards
  • Referee and officials’ responsibilities
  • Fair play and sportsmanship
  • Anti-doping requirements, where applicable
  • Athlete safeguarding and participant safety
  • Disciplinary procedures and dispute resolution
  • Appeals and competition-result verification

All participants should follow the applicable rules published for the relevant sport, discipline or event.

4. Athlete Development & Participation

IPSF encourages sporting participation at different levels, from grassroots engagement to high-performance competition. We aim to support opportunities for athletes, coaches, referees, technical officials and sports administrators to develop their skills and contribute to the sporting community.

Our broader objectives include promoting youth participation, encouraging responsible coaching, supporting inclusive opportunities and fostering international sporting exchange.

5. International Competitions

Subject to the federation’s approved programmes and event calendar, sporting disciplines may be featured in championships, tournaments, invitational events and other organized competitions.

Each event should publish its eligibility criteria, registration process, schedule, competition rules and official results through authorized federation channels.

6. Sports Recognition & Affiliation

Sports organizations and associations interested in seeking recognition or affiliation may contact IPSF to learn about the applicable process.

Applications may be assessed according to organizational governance, documented rules, safety practices, development plans and other criteria established by the federation. Submission of an application does not guarantee recognition or affiliation.
